Family members of a man murdered by a neighbor have just slapped the accused with a 5 million dollar civil suit. Although the police eventually concluded that the deceased never molested the neighbor's 2 year old daughter, apparently the accused lost it when he learned through his wife that their child had communicated that she had in fact been inappropriately touched. The father climbed through a bedroom window to stab him repeatedly. This is one of those vigilante type crimes where the criminal arguably felt entirely justified in his/her conduct. Although this father's reaction certainly wasn't appropriate under any circumstances, it's hard to say how any parent would assimilate that kind of knowledge. Your thoughts? How will a jury see this one?

This guy makes me just as sick as the kid who nearly decapitated his stepfather. I have no doubt that any parent would feel stupified, angry, and confused if there were some suspicion that their child had been molested. But acting on those feelings without even attempting to get the facts straight is sheer madness. Anyone who tries to defend vigilante justice (even if the guy -had- molested the girl) has to defend the idea that this sort of malicious revenge is even possibly worth questioning; I sincerely hope a jury wouldn't be swayed by such an archaic standard.

Maybe that's what you hope but if there's evidence that this guy really did molest the child, that could have a big impact upon the way potential jurors see him. Remember the OJ case....Of course this guy isn't a celebrity. However, molesting a child is a pretty egregious offense and some jurors might have a real hard time putting this guy away for protecting an innocent child.

On a separate note, but somewhat related.
My favorite lawyer/court related movie has to be Runaway jury with Jon Cusak.

I think I saw it....not bad. Not a huge fan of J. Cusak though. Devil's Advocate?
