How do you hold these kids accountable for setting a wildfire which ravaged thousands of acres with damages and costs totaling about 12 million bucks? I think incarceration/rehabilitation plus a lifetime of restitution is in order. It would absurd to make Utah taxpayers bear the burden of paying for the asinine conduct of these derelicts.

If there's enough evidence linking these kids to the wildfire, then I think not only they should be in a dire situation, but also their regional boy scout troupe. It's already been established that these kids shouldn't have been left alone with a couple of 15 year olds looking after them; that's the first mistake. If we can claim that the larger organization [or at least the regional one] is partially responsible for leaving these kids out there relatively unsupervised, then the regional organization should also be held accountable. Maybe the entire region of boy scouts should have to perform community service projects to improve various aspects of Utah. The organization is built (partially) around service principles anyhow; maybe the state should now have the right to guide many of their projects, and demand their service.

Solid point. If one of the things the boy scouts organization oversees are its child members in outdoor settings, to permit this to happen does seem like oversight on their part (assuming it happened on their watch). And having others kids (15 year olds) supervise doesn't help the scouts as a target.
